Tips on Using Red Granite
Greenvale’s Red Granite has been graded to about 14mm, making it unlikely to stick in tyre treads. Larger gravel is also less likely to scatter. This versatile aggregate is the ideal size for paths and drives.
The first step to constructing a pathway or drive is to mark an outline of the area. Traditional stakes and cord or string work well for this task, but you can use a rolling paint wheel, such as those used to mark parking lines.
Your second step will be to prepare the area. Remove all grass, weeds, and other foliage.
Next tightly compact the soil using a tamper or roller, both of which are available for hire. Once the soil is compacted, you may want to treat the area with a weed killer, as a preventive measure. Using a weed barrier fabric is not recommended for paths or driveways by most experts, since the fabric can move and show through.
Your final step is to layer 2 to 3 inches of decorative gravel in the prepared area. Tamp it down very lightly.
Using a polythene or burlap fabric weed barrier is recommended when you use Red Granite or other decorative gravel as a groundcover/mulch.
To keep your gravel paths, drives, and groundcovers looking neat and clean, lightly rake them with a round-tined rake on a regular basis.
Greenvale’s Red Granite is available in tonne bags, large bags (25KG), and in bulk.
