Gravel has been put to good use for thousands of years, and with so many varieties to choose from – it’s never been easier to pick the perfect type and colour for your garden. Different stones will offer their own unique benefits and attributes; two of our favourite, most versatile types are our Cotswold buff and our dove grey limestone. Although similar in size and shape, these two stones couldn’t be more different. Our grey limestone in Manchester is the finest quality, so let’s take a look at this type of rock first.
Available in single bags weighing 25kg, as well as multi-tonne alternatives for larger projects; the stones themselves are formed within marine environments and are subjected to a whole host of mineral exposure when underwater. This makes them especially useful as far as flowerbeds and plant life are concerned – and with each and every watering the minerals contained within the limestone will make their way into the soil to be absorbed by roots and seeds.
Another major benefit of our limestone is the consistent size and shape of each piece of rock. Every single piece of stone chipping will weigh roughly the same as the others in each bag, and this makes them ideal for driveways, paths and soil patches. Limestone itself is a fairly durable stone, able to withstand pressures and impact from all sources.
If you’re looking for the best limestone and gravel in North West Manchester, then you’ll definitely appreciate the affordable products that we have to offer. Many of our customers prefer to use their grey limestone within driveways, as the rocks are well-rounded enough to eliminate any risk to tires, whilst looking great when laid out for all to see. Alternatively, due to the small size and shape of each rock, there’s always the option to use them within walkways. Once applied, just a gentle pat with the back of a shovel will set them in place, making for a comfortable path for your family to enjoy.
One of the greatest benefits of limestone has to relate to its ease of maintenance. Being grey, they are quite resistant to stains and can be easily washed, too. Just a quick spray with water is enough to dislodge debris and other elements that may have settled on to the surface of the rocks. The colour won’t fade in the sunlight either as the entire composition is grey through to the core of the stone.
Where our limestone’s grey attributes are great for adding style and neutrality to a garden, our Costwold buff gravel in Lancashire is ideal for introducing a touch of colour and exclusivity. This type of gravel forms a dolomite type aggregate and it’s very hard wearing, no matter how frequently used. Each piece is similar in size to the next, with a subtle yellow hue that acts to complement any other shades present.
This means that it will enhance the look of a green garden filled with foliage, just as much as it will benefit the spaciousness of a pathway or drive. We offer this type of gravel in smaller 25kg bags, all the way up to multiple tonnes that can be ordered via our online store. A single bag is often enough to cover up to a single metre squared, with a tonne being ideal for up to 18 square metres.
Although fairly small in size when compared to cobbles, our buff gravel boasts other strengths and advantages. For example, it is solid enough to withstand even the most extensive of pressure (making it perfect to securely carry the weight of cars and larger vehicles). Its soft edges also make fitting in easy, and just a few pats with a shovel will often be more than sufficient to flatten the gravel.
Being a natural stone, it’s also very resistant to the weather and won’t stain easily – if at all. The soft yellow hue is consistent throughout the entire rock, so if any parts do happen to break away – there’s never a concern over interruptions to colour. Considering our incredibly low costs and yearly availability; it’s no wonder why our buff gravel has become one of our most popular products.
These two types of gravel are just a few that we have available to our customers. For a full breakdown on our gravel, as well as countless other garden supplies in Manchester – take a look at our online store and take advantage of our wholesale prices.
